The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved on June 13 the first ceramic-on-metal total artificial hip system for patients with osteoarthritis. Hip joints consist of bone in the shape of a ball at the top of the thighbone (femur) that fits into a rounded socket in the pelvis (acetabulum).

Specialty Physicians Turn Away Two Thirds Of Children With Public Insurance
Sixty-six percent of publicly-insured children were unable to get a doctor's appointment for medical conditions requiring outpatient specialty care including diabetes and seizures, while children with identical symptoms and private insurance were turned away only 11 percent of the time, according to an audit study of 273 specialty physician practices in Cook County, Ill.

Olive Oil May Prevent Strokes In Older People, French Study
Older people who use olive oil for cooking, in salad dressing or with bread may be doing much to protect themselves against stroke, according to a French study of three cities where researchers found seniors whose diet included a lot of olive had a 41% lower risk of stroke compared to those who had never consumed it.
